
You know that red dot? The one that dances on the carpet, mocks you from the wall, and vanishes the second your paws make contact?
AI is a massive, invisible machine trying to guess exactly where you want that red dot to land next.
It doesn’t actually know what a red dot is, and it definitely doesn’t know what a cat is. But it has watched millions of cats wiggle their butts before a pounce. It has memorised every twitch of a tail, every dilated pupil, and every failed leap into the curtains.
Because it has processed all that history, it doesn’t think—it just calculates probabilities. It says: “Based on 400 million previous butt-wiggles, there is a 98.2% chance this specific creature is about to spring to the left.” Then, it throws the dot to the left.
When you catch the dot (or think you did), the machine gets a little hit of digital catnip. It thinks: “Excellent, my math was right.” If you walk away to lick your paws in disgust, the machine panics, re-calculates, and tries a completely different pattern to get you back on the rug.
It is incredibly fast, endlessly patient, and possesses the memory of a billion lifetimes. But at the end of the day, it’s just an over-engineered pattern-matcher. It can simulate the hunt perfectly, but it will never understand the pure, chaotic joy of knocking a glass off the kitchen counter just to watch it shatter.
